Wording For A Wedding Invitation
That Will Spring Open The Tear Taps

Choosing the right wording for a wedding invitation will depend on whether it's a formal or casual wedding. You can still go with the tried and trusted methods that have stood the test of time.

You could express your thoughts that are deep within your heart; you may have a favorite poem that you could use. Some people like to use famous quotations. If it's a casual wedding, then feel free to have fun!

Here's something else to keep in mind. There's a virtually endless supply of wedding invitation wording examples to guide you. You can do what's been done before or invent something new or nuanced.

Traditionally, the bride's parents paid for the wedding and wedding invitation wording was along the lines of "the bride's parents request the presence..." Today, many family members contribute, thus, invitations may reflect this.

Sample Wording

Here are several examples of wording you (the bride and groom) can use:

"Since you're a special part of our lives, we, Stephanie Josephine Smith and Ronald Gordon Charlton together with our parents invite you to share in the start of our new life together when we exchange marriage vows on Saturday, the thirty-first of May, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Palm Beach Gardens Baptist Church, 4176 Burns Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL."

A standard wording for a wedding invitation could go something like:

"Mr. and Mrs. Tom Baker request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their daughter Sarah Baker to Peter Lawson at twelve noon on Sunday, the first of June, two thousand and nine at the Mount Olive Ame Church, 818 South Delaney Avenue, Avon Park, FL. Reception to follow."

For something more casual and laid back, perhaps something along the lines of:

"We're about to say "I do" to each other and we'd love for you to be there. Saturday evening at 7:30 pm at Forest Hills Country Club in Denver, CO. Reception to follow at Jack's Lounge two blocks east of Forest Hills CC."

Making An Impression

This is a time when you'll be making your first impression on many people, so you'll want to make it a lasting one. Again, depending on the atmosphere of your wedding, wording varies and even wedding invitation poems will work.

If it's a relaxed wedding atmosphere, by all means, get creative and come up with your own stuff - you'll still remember it years later! If it's a more formal or conservative type wedding, then you'll need to adjust accordingly with the standard type of wording.

Keep in mind that even though the invitation will inform guests of the time, date and venue, it also lets them know the type of occasion it's going to be - formal, conservative or casual. By looking at the wording for a wedding invitation, guests can form an immediate impression.
